![]() Borderlands 2 brings in new characters and familiar faces. There is a deeper story set here, and with an early established villain, there’s more to help drive you forward towards the conclusion of the game. Throughout your travels you will see Hyperion’s destruction and the negative effect that Handsome Jack has had on the people trying to settle in Pandora. Sanctuary is made up of former Atlas soldiers and innocent civilians that were made to flee from their homes by Hyperion forces. Sure, there is a new Vault and thus new treasure or challenges to be discovered…but, meeting and becoming part of a resistance really digs in your character as doing something much more important. Unlike the first Borderlands which just had the loose story of Vault Hunters looking for treasure, Borderlands 2 is something much more than that. It’s a race against time as you try to stop Jack from accessing the Vault, all the while saving the innocent people living within Sanctuary. Jack knows of Sanctuary’s location and launches attacks on it daily…and the more missions you do to help the Crimson Raiders get the upper hand on the situation, the darker the scenario becomes. After gaining entry to Sanctuary, you are tasked with helping the city maintain its defenses…but also tasked in finding the various members of the Crimson Raiders that have gone into hiding. The resistance is known as the Crimson Raiders and run by Roland (former player character from BL1 now an NPC). His goal? To locate a new Vault on Pandora…and to make sure he has no competition, he has been luring in Vault Hunters and killing them.Ī new anti-Hyperion resistance has emerged on Pandora, located in the town known as Sanctuary. Hyperion CEO Handsome Jack is now on the scene, and all of Pandora seems to be under his control. But with new resources comes new villains to claim it as their own. The flourishing of this new element is due to the Vault Hunters from the first game defeating the Destroyer. Borderlands 2 was actually my introduction to the series and I found that it made me appreciate the game even more when I went back to the first game and saw everything they would later implement for a smoother and more complete product.īut enough rambling, lets get into the review!īorderlands 2 is set 5 years after the events of the first game where a new element called Eridium is now found all over the planet of Pandora. Still, Borderlands 2 came in strong with a new writer, a new set of villains, and a brand new evil. It was such a huge issue that even those working at gearbox made fun of themselves (check out Ashley Burch’s video HERE to see what I mean). There was a very loose story in Borderlands, and an ending that had weak enemies (weak main villains), and ultimately a very poor finale that left players feeling unaccomplished. While people loved the characters, the style, and the mechanics of the game…what the consumers hated was the ending. Borderlands created its own type of genre now dubbed the “Shooter-looter”. If you read my original Borderlands review (which you can find HERE), the aspect of an action RPG crossed with FPS actually ended up as a great hit. People were ecstatic to return back to Pandora and see what new danger awaited us there. ![]() But luckily, this was something we did not have to worry about when it came to Borderlands 2. This is especially true when talking about things within the gaming industry. ![]() We are worried about our favorite things getting ‘worn out’ and becoming cash cows. It takes a lot to take a good thing and make it even better…and I think a lot of us are very picky and ‘skeptical’ about things like sequels. Handsome Collection Release Date: March 24, 2015 Of course, that's not to say that the game doesn't have its issues, but for fans of the series and high-quality third-person shooters, they should be fairly easy to overlook.Original Release Date: September 18, 2012 Sure, players may come for the Xenomorphs, but they'll stay for the out-of-this-world gun fights and the wonderful job that the game does of creating tension and suspense when the battlefield falls silent. One suspects that there are plenty of people who fall into the latter category, as there's still an awful lot of fun to be had with Aliens: Fireteam Elite. Granted, this may be a case of too little too late for some, but those still having fun with the game will no doubt see it as a case of better late than never. For those who are keeping score, that's exactly what happened with Cold Iron Studios' Aliens: Fireteam Elite, with the functionality being added into the game almost a full year on from its official release. It's always nice when a game that didn't launch with crossplay support gets it in a future update. ![]()
